Zebrafish Observation Diary 10

Image
Take a short vacation from Mar 14 to 20. Diary continue from Mar 21. Monday, March 21, 2022 Weather: Sunny Situation: I haven't looked at the fish tank after a week. The most prominent change in the fish tank is the bowl of lily seeds, two bowl of lily seeds sprouted and grew a lot longer, like two long whiskers floating horizontally on the water surface. The zebrafish actually also changed, feeling that after all this time, grew a lot big. The smallest one is still a small green zebrafish. Two of the three crabs died, and one large crab died so thoroughly that its body was dismembered into several pieces and scattered at the bottom of the fish tank, dotted with stars. The small mini crab that was in a box floating on the water, after opening the box, I found that the water in the box was cloudy and its body had already stank with the cloudy water in this coming summer. With only one of the three crabs left, I used the small air pump to tease it and check to see if it was still a...

Sunday, March 13, 2022 Weather: Sunny Situation: I came to visit the fish and crabs at work a day earlier than expected because I was worried about them. I actually had a very clear purpose, I came to change their water. No more delays, really change the water . Since it was the first time I changed the water, I was a bit apprehensive. I first took out the fish and crabs from the tank into the water basin where they had been sitting for two days, and then I fished the water ficus, sprouted seeds of the water lily, and the tree trunk decoration out of the tank one by one.  With the assistance of two colleagues, the water pump was turned on and when it was turned on, the water in the fish tank was pumped out smoothly and flowed down. After pumping out about one-third of the water, the pumping was stopped. One of the lily seeds had sprouted and bent across the entire surface of the water, as if building a plant bridge. The rest of the bowl of lotus seeds, except for one that ...

Friday, March 11, 2022 Weather: sunny Situation: The miniature little crab was still floating in a box on the surface of the water, most of the water in the box had seeped in from the aquarium and the water condition was poor and murky. As the water occupied roughly two-thirds of the box, the little crab crawled on top of the blue sponge. Three of the sprouts from the bowl lily seeds had grown tall, one to 11 cm, another to 7 cm, and a shorter one had grown to three cm.  I found an interesting fact: when I sowed the bowl lily seeds at random, I didn't pay much attention to them, but all three sprouted almost in a single line in front of the tree house, although the shorter one grew a little crooked. I bought a total of five seeds, and except for these three seeds that sprouted, the other two seeds still lay lonely under the water with little change. The zebrafish and crabs were in good condition, and as usual I teased two crabs with the oxygen pump, and one of them was sucked up in...

Thursday, March 10, 2022 Weather: Sunny Situation: good I didn't dare to check the specifics of the aquarium until after 5 pm, I was surprised to find that the crab I was worried about yesterday was not dead, both crabs were still alive, one crab was next to the tree house and the other was next to the air pump, I was really excited. Because I really thought the crab was dead, but it was surprisingly not dead, which was totally unexpected. The sprouts of the bowl lily seeds grew very tall and curved into a beautiful arc, like a green scythe. It's not even autumn yet and my first aquarium is about to be harvested. The zebrafish are also in good shape, no casualties so far. The water quality seems to be quite stable,  I'm not sure if it's the result I've been keeping the aquarium for a few days.  I still haven't change the water today, as lazy man as I am, I decide to change the water tomorrow.  I'm not sure if it's because the aquarium has too many fish...

Wednesday, March 9, 2022 Weather: Sunny Situation: Surprised that the lily seeds thrown into the water a few days ago sprouted, green stems look like a hermit crab with two tentacles sticking out. The zebrafish are in great shape and the crabs (two large ones and one super small mini crab) are still alive, thank goodness. Near noon, I unplugged the air pump because my phone was charging, and I ended up going to dinner at noon and forgot to turn on the oxygen pump for them, so I rushed to connect them to the oxygen pump in the afternoon, and was anxious to see their motionless appearance.  One of the big crabs was almost the whole thing on top of the airstone ball of the pump. After a few minutes, I moved the pump a few times and made sure the crab was still alive. They became the aquatic creature I was most worried about in the whole aquarium . I don't to care too much about the zebrafish, probably because the fish stays stable, and subconsciously I put the zebrafish in the "...

Time: Tuesday, March 8, 2022 Weather: sunny Situation: good My worst fears did not happen. All three crabs are alive and well, and so far none of them are dead. Two of the big crabs are still climbing against the edge of the fish tank . The small crab was floating on the surface of the water in the box, and I was a little freaked out it will die when I took it out, because the water in the tank was soaking into the box, which was at half, and the small crab was so small to survive alone. But I poured the water carefully into the tank and found that the crabs were still alive, so my heart finally relieved. The other zebrafish is in good condition, and the water quality is not too bad, so I plan to change the water tomorrow.

Monday, March 7, 2022 Weather: sunny Situation: good The fish were all in good condition and very active, the two white zebrafish grew up and the blue stripes on their bodies were particularly obvious, the little green fish was still the smallest of all. In the morning, the two pepper crabs I bought arrived. First time, I know pepper crab's scientific name is  Ilyoplax deschampsi . One pepper crab came in its own box with a pepper crab baby, which felt smaller than a baby's fingernail, but it crawled very fast, so I didn't put it in the water because I was worried it would drown, it was too small. The other two pepper crabs along the box floated on the water for a noon time. In the afternoon I dumped them on top of the water ficus that was in the water. One fell directly from the leaf into the water and climbed horizontally along the edge of the tank, from the right side to the left side.  I was worried about its lack of oxygen and put the airpump next to him, but it seeme...

Saturday, March 5, 2022 Weather: sunny Situation: good In morning, there was a little hiccup. I was keenly aware that the green one was missing.  I finally confirmed the number of fish with my colleague and found that there was indeed one fish missing. I was very nervous and asked my colleague, "The green fish didn't die and was eaten by other fish, did it?" Colleague is not worried at all, she said: "Even if dead, it is impossible to eat so clean, more or less will leave the body of ......" Later, colleague reminded me that  in the small compartment of  the fish aquarium found the missing small green zebrafish . Indeed,  it alone swimming in a small compartment. "The compartment has a lot of holes, so wide, and it is so small one, it must be so easy to swim in." My colleague's words echoed in my ears. I looked at the green zebrafish with some anxiety. In order to get the little green fish out, I put the small air pump into the cubicle, pounded fo...

Friday, March 4, 2022 Weather: sunny Situation: a little good Fish tank: 2 little guys died: one pepper crab and one fluorescent yellow fish. Other fish were in good condition. After checking some information, I learned that chili crabs cannot be kept in deep water and are prone to die from lack of oxygen. I guess this pepper crab died because of hypoxia. So oxygen is very important for crab pet, an air pump is necessary for it. The fluorescent yellow fish died for the same reason but and seems it was melting after several hours, and it became  specimen . The fish was surrounded by fluorescent yellow. I put their bodies in the lid of a paper cup that I usually use to drink leftover soy milk, and I was going to find time to bury them.

As an aquarium novice, after get info from what kind of fish is good for beginners , I choose zebrafish, which scientific name is Danio Rerio .  The zebrafish arrived on March 3, and the water was prepared in advance in a fish tank 20 L for them to rest at least a week.  Here, I am going to record my observations of them by way of a diary. Thursday, March 3, 2022 Weather: sunny Situation: good First, as requested, put zebrafish and pearl crabs together with the bag into the water, helps them to adapt different water temperature, after about 2 hours, get some fish tank water out of the tank, cut bags and pour them into the water basin, wait patiently almost two hours later, then use the fishing net to pick them up and put them into the fish tank carefully, this series of actions also announced the completion of the water change. So far, overall, the fish are very lively and seem to be very well adapted to their new home. The pepper crab broke three legs and was later put in de...
